SS Christine and the Mumbles Lifeboat Disaster Leaving Port Talbot Docks On the 31st of Jan 1903 The SS Christine had grounded The Mumbles Lifeboat was Launched but upon arriving they discovered that help was not needed
The Sea was calm and they made for the harbour but the sea was disturbed outside the harbour entrance and to the horror of the spectators
The Lifeboat was hit by a large wave.She righted but was hit a second time six of the crew was washed over the side and the boat was washed onto the rocks the remaining crew was miraculously saved
But six where drowned or battered to death on the rocks included the Coxswain Thomas Rogers the others where Daniel Claypit,David J Morgan,George Michael,James Gammom,and Robert Smith
Thomas Michael one of the survivors had also survived the 1883 Lifeboat Accident The Crew Left 38 Children
