The Brodland.
Leaving Port Talbot Docks towed by Tug "Emily Charlotte".The tow rope broke due to heavy sea and sudden squall She was driven ashore near the North Pier distress rockets fired Local Life saving Apparatus under Capt Humphrey Jones on scene a line was fired and secured.First man ashore was Mr Ching Guen after 3 hours 42 crew brought ashore last man to leave was Capt Vernon A Scot The only local man aboard was Mr F.L.James (Carpenter)of Tydraw st Cargo 2,500 tons of Welsh Coal She was built by Craig Taylor & co of Stockton on tees in 1891 Original name "Highland Mary" For the Nelson line.Renamed "Brodland" in 1912 Sailed for the BlueStar line from Barry to South America She was bound for Puntas Arenas in the Magellan Straits Her Anchor can be seen outside the Lifeboat Station on Aberavon Beach she was later sold for scrap >
